CANADA: Guelph cannabis club a smoking “business” — not far from Toronto

It’s a controversial operation but quietly so.

While it promotes itself and its workings via the internet, it guards its location closely. Even when you’ve arrived at the lobby of the downtown building where it’s situated – for now at least – only a simple sign marks its presence. White plastic letters on a brown board softly announce: Medical Club of Guelph.

The front door of the second-floor office is always locked. A doorbell chimes when a visitor wants access.

Behind the closed door, employees of the club – the Medical Cannabis Club of Guelph — dispense medical marijuana. It opened just over three years ago. It has quietly grown to 238 members.

The discreetness is to keep away those seeking recreational marijuana, said club founder Rade Kovacevic.

Deputies seize 317 kilos of marijuana from three United States soldiers

Three Army soldiers were among those arrested during Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's most recent crime sweep.

Deputies arrested the three soldiers on drug, money laundering and conspiracy charges.

The soldiers, Dwayne Campbell, Llewellyn Stamoulis and Romaine May were discovered to have 680 pounds of marijuana and $10,000 in cash during a traffic stop in north Phoenix.

Agents seize 1,300 pounds of marijuana of a Mexican drug cartel

San Bernardino County narcotics agents seized 1,300 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $1 million and arrested four men during a raid at an Ontario home used by a Mexican drug cartel, authorities said.

Agents from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department arrested four men Wednesday morning at the home in the 1600 block of G Street. Police identified them as Eduardo Flores, 46, of Bell Gardens; Carlos Rodriguez, 29, of Los Angeles; Aurelio Lizarraga, 34, of Rialto; and Saul Ochoa, 35, of Corona.

Public hearing to address marijuana in Redding, California

The Redding Planning Commission will take a first stab at setting marijuana cultivation limits and zoning restrictions for medical marijuana collectives during a public hearing today.

City planners will recommend the commission limit outdoor marijuana gardens to 100 square feet for the six mature plants allowed under Prop. 215. The gardens would have to sit behind a self-closing gate in a 6-foot-tall, "non-climbable" fence, under the proposed zoning regulations.

Marijuana growing peacefully

Illegal marijuana cultivation has reached epidemic proportions in Ontario and justice officials in the United States have branded their northern neighbour a "source country," the province's top police official said Wednesday.

Marijuana is exported south and traded for crystal meth and crack cocaine which are then brought back into Canada, provincial police Commissioner Julian Fantino said Wednesday.

"The going terminology is 'brown south, white north,"' Fantino said, adding marijuana is also being exchanged for guns.

"It's a black eye on Canada when you have the United States... refer to us as a source country of marijuana."
