Two tonnes of cannabis seized in Greece – woah!

Greek authorities have seized nearly two tonnes of cannabis during an operation to dismantle an international ring of Greek and Albanian drug dealers in Attica and Larissa, during which they placed six suspects under arrest.

The raid was carried out on Saturday by the Attica Security drugs squad, working in collaboration with the Attica financial crimes unit (SDOE) drugs department and the U.S. Embassy's Drug Enforcement Administration bureau.

They arrested one Albanian and five Greeks, including the suspected mastermind of the ring, who were in the process of transporting the drugs to western Europe using long-haul trucks for international transport.

The police operation was based on a tip-off about the ring's activities and a three-month investigation that led detectives to the ring's mastermind, who owned a trucking company and other businesses in Larissa, and one of his closest associates.

Police seize more than 1,500 plants in East Oakland, California marijuana grow-up bust

A report of a burglary in progress Sunday morning at an East Oakland home led to the seizure of a stash of marijuana worth more than $400,000, including 1,500 plants in various stages of growth and bags full of finished product, and the arrest of the resident, police said Monday.

The seizure, one of the largest recently, began about 4:26 a.m. Sunday after police received a call that three men were trying to break into a house in the 2300 block of East 16th Street.

Officers arrived and found that someone had partially pried open a security gate in the rear of the house.

Police have uncovered a marijuana grow-op at a business in the industrial park in Bedford.

RCMP say they executed a search warrant at the property, which is on Bluewater Road, around 10 p.m. on Saturday and seized 375 mature marijuana plants. Grow-op equipment was also found, police say, as was an electrical bypass, suggesting that power was being stolen.

Pizza Gigi's owner, 57-year-old Salvatore Crimi, sold the drug from the restaurant, police alleged.

Investigators obtained a warrant for Monday's raid after watching customers enter and leave without any food.

Police said in a statement they had also seized cocaine, other drugs and 8,000 Canadian dollars in the search.

The restaurant, said to be popular with University of Toronto students, has been at its location for 30 years, according to the Toronto Star.

Hundreds of pounds of marijuana were found in a truck during a traffic stop in Collinsville on Monday, investigators said Tuesday.

An Illinois State Police trooper pulled the semi-tractor trailer over for a safety check on Interstate 55/70 between Illinois state routes 157 and 159, according to a news release.

Cops bust $1.2 million marijuana grow of BC Bud

Marijuana plants worth more than $1 million were seized on Friday in a massive grow-op bust in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg police executed a search warrant at a home at about 6:30 p.m., where they discovered a sophisticated marijuana grow operation.

Close to 1,100 marijuana plants were seized, which have an estimated value of $1.2 million. Also seized was roughly 40 grams of dry cannabis marijuana, worth about $400 and assorted growing equipment worth $25,000.

"When we get that amount of drugs off the streets of Winnipeg, it's certainly something I think that these investigators should be proud of," Winnipeg police Const. Natalie Aitken said.

Despite Obama admin’s promise, DEA continues raids on medical marijuana growers

On Thursday, a Denver news station interviewed Chris Bartkowicz about his medical-marijuana operation in the basement of his home. Bartkowicz, confident of his compliance with state laws, boasted of its size and profitability.

"I'm definitely living the dream now," he told 9News.

The following day, the dream was over.

Drug-enforcement agents raided his home, placed him under arrest, and carried off dozens of black bags of marijuana plants and growing lights.

The Obama administration promised in October that the federal government would respect state laws allowing the growing and selling of marijuana for medicinal use, but the Drug Enforcement Agency sent a loud message with the arrest of Bartkowicz.

Man charged in Canada’s largest grow-op gets $1m fine, five years

A Markham, Ontario real estate agent who converted 54 rented homes into Canada’s largest-known illegal marijuana grow-op was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison and fined more than $1 million.

Phu Nhi (John) Trac, 46, must serve another five years if he fails to pay the fines within two years, Ontario Superior Court Justice Michael Brown also ruled at the sentencing in Newmarket.

Deputies seize 317 kilos of marijuana from three United States soldiers

Three Army soldiers were among those arrested during Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's most recent crime sweep.

Deputies arrested the three soldiers on drug, money laundering and conspiracy charges.

The soldiers, Dwayne Campbell, Llewellyn Stamoulis and Romaine May were discovered to have 680 pounds of marijuana and $10,000 in cash during a traffic stop in north Phoenix.
